I had plenty of time to do things I craved during this long-long winter. Like that personal project that I had in mind for a long time. I was finally able to shoot at Variety Village, an amazing place that you should totally visit someday. The several weeks I spent there are priceless. Even now, I still feel inspired by all the beautiful people that I have met while working on my project. Please, sit down and have a look at The Space in Between.
You might need to know a little about my background to understand why I feel so particularly inspired by Variety Village. I came from a place where people with disabilities were normally avoided or completely ignored not only by simple folk on the streets but by the government too. Many of them live miserable lives, unable to care for themselves or ask for help. Each time I travelled to a foreign, more civilised country, I would see people in wheelchairs on the streets, living in the open, instead of hiding away in their apartments.
Imagine my surprise when I first got to Variety Village, a fitness facility for people with disabilities. The reality of people willing to care about others still strikes me. We have something important to learn from both the members and volunteers at Variety Village. How to smile and find happiness in your heart despite all the pain and difficulties you may have endured. How to show compassion to those who are in need of it. How to believe in yourself and to achieve greatness.
